What is Deltek Vantagepoint's Enhanced Dashboard?

Deltek Vantagepoint is the next generation of Deltek Vision and has a more up-to-date, web-based interface for the user.

The interface includes the ability for each user to have multiple dashboards that can provide access to reports, charts, and webpages all on one screen without having to run reports or search for information within the database.

Furthermore, users are not limited in the number of dashboards they can have, with many users having a separate dashboard for each of their business functions within the company.

A principal, for example, may have different dashboards for business development, project management, and company financials- each with multiple parts providing quick access to the company’s finances or project status.

Read on to learn seven ways to make the most out of Deltek Vantagepoint's enhanced dashboards today.

1. Understand the Different Dashpart Types

The different parts or applications found within the enhanced dashboards are called dashparts.

Each dashpart uses data collected in all areas of the platform and is tailored for each configuration you have active, so it will vary depending upon what features are enabled or disabled at any given time!

Dashparts come in several types:

  • System dashparts are prebuilt within the application and come with preset searches, and sorting.

  • Report Dashparts are created from saved favorite reports you create within your database and show the information in the report.

  • Chart dashparts are a visual representation of information in your database.

  • Table dashparts which come in either regular or detail types, such as project or project detail tables.

Additional dashboard types include web pages and interactive dashparts if your company has the Vantagepoint Intelligence module.

2. Utilize System Dashparts

System dashparts display data on a unique interface that you can add to any dashboard.

They come preconfigured in Vantagepoint and display relevant information depending on the dashpart type.

For example, the “my activities” dashpart is configured to display the upcoming activities for the user logged in and viewing the dashboard.

Other dashparts are not user-specific. The “upcoming generic resource assignments” displays the next several periods on the planning calendar, and the assignments are still made to generic resources. This feature gives project managers a quick view of scheduled work that may require assignment to an actual employee.

3. Save Time with Report Dashparts

Report dashparts are saved favorite reports that you create and add to the dashboard.

This is useful because the reports can be tailored to fit your user, such as a project report where the logged-in user is the project manager.

Adding them to the dashboard eliminates the need to have the PM run the report or to have the report scheduled to run after hours and then emailed to the user. Depending on report configuration, the information displayed can be in real-time or as of a specific date.

4. Streamline Operations with Chart Dashparts

Chart dashparts are preconfigured dashparts that display information in your database in a graphical format.

This information can be related to existing or in-pursuit projects in your future pipeline. It can also display information on specific KPIs such as your top-performing projects or the projects/clients with the highest accounts receivable balance.

Some charts can be filtered to include or exclude specific records based on desired criteria. The charts are designed to give the user a quick visual method of scoring or evaluating the information.

5. Use Table Dashparts to Your Advantage

Table dashparts display information on records in a list or tabular format.

For example, if you select a project type of table, you can choose various fields within the selected records. This display could be a list of projects showing the project manager, the client, and other information chosen.

The information can be sorted or filtered on any of the included columns.

Similarly, a project detail table type includes the project information plus specific transactional data like labor or expense detail. This feature allows you to filter by elements of the transaction record as well, such as dollar figures, number of hours, or a particular resource.

6. Customize Your Dashboard with Website Dashparts

Website dashparts allow you to copy a URL and create a dashpart that will open the website within the dashpart when the dashboard is opened.

You can use a Web dashboard part to link to a web site, a file, a report, or even your own Outlook site. The Web dashpart, unlike the Links dashpart, shows only the material linked to a single URL.

Conclusion

Vantagepoint dashboards provide your users with a quick reference to information in your database.

The dashboards can be configured to meet your individual user’s needs based on their job within the company. The information presented can be in the form of a report, table, chart, or website and can be configured by your users or based on preconfigured elements included in the application.
